Thanks AAlover for these great pictures. I worked for WAL for several years in SFO,PSP.SAN. UNTIL 1980, was a great airline.
My Uncle worked for them in San Francisco…Went to Hawaii on a DC 10 what service they had I was a little kid but I remember the nice flight crew and good food not like today…..
I enjoyed working for Western Airlines, and as the other past employee stated,The entire Western family treated all the passengers as if they were family too!
Spent 20 years of my life with WAL, some of the best years !
The RocketMan
I remember flying on a Western DC10 from Vancouver to Honolulu in 1979. I was only 8 years old. There was a male flight attendant sitting in his jump seat in front of the first class curtain. When I went to use the toilet. i mistakenly headed for first class, and the crewmember shouted at me to get down the back! Classy! The reason he was guarding first class? All of the cabin crew were up there watching the movie! I was really shaken up! Yes, they certainly knew who signed their paycheck!
I like the old Indian head paint scheme from the 1960s.
What is the name of the song?
Thank you for helping recapture some of the essence that was….Western Airlines.
‘Back in the day’…..each of our employee’s, from the very top, down, knew who ‘signed our paycheck.’ ~ Our passengers were treated as if they were a guest in our own homes. We clearly loved what we did, and they knew it!
The memory of Western Airlines will endure thr test of time ~ It truly was, “The Only Way to Fly.”
~S.F.~ Flight Attendant, SFO
I love Western (or “The Flying Winnebago”)! Oldest airline in the U. S., and one of the best. I’m glad they’re still alive via Delta, but I still don’t know if we should call it Deltern or Westa? Still “The o-n-l-y way to fly!”
As a retired WA/DL employee… I really needed to see this to remember the beauty and power of the carrier I hired on with in 1966!! Thank yo so much!!
Although, I wouldn’t have wanted a Western-Continental merger either…
Western is #1!
Thank you so much for this, Western is my favorite airline ever….the “old” Continental is second…ironic how they and Western were going to merge (both were based at LAX), when Frank Lorenzo stepped in and had other ideas for Continental…
As a former Flight Attendant for Western, it was fun to watch this. Those were the good old day when it was a great career and we took pride in our airline. Too bad those days are long gone. Thanks for sharing
and their Utah Hub and California destinations.
Please, someone bring back that Western Airlines Commercial, where the Pilot, and the Stewardesses are saying “You Get 3 Feet, For Your 2 Legs, On Western Airlines”.
I loved that commercial, and it was very funny!
Western was the only way to fly. My Dad flew with them till they merged with Delta. He retired 12 years ago. Western pilots were the best thing that ever happened to Delta.
thank you very very very much for submit this great video, I miss Western very much.
