severe turbulence on board AF345 (747-400)

Montreal Paris 25 May 2008 We had been warned of severe turbulence during the flight. I think filming the wing took my mind off the fact that the Jumbo was bouncing around like it was about to fall from the sky. Got to hand it to the designers at Boeing. I am sure it could have withstood much more. Didnt help my nerves a lot. … severe turbulence 747 400 plane travel air france scary emergency high altitude

Hey dude, wings are made to bounce during the turbulences, otherwise the plane falls from the sky as a dead bird! This is totally normal and millions of aircrafts fly yhe same track daily. Turbulences were never recorded as a crash cause. Next time you experience this just stick to your seat with your seatbelt on for more safety, but never worry :)

turbulence was never mentioned as a cause of the crash…planes fly through the same corridor all the time…this is just fear mongering.

The most likely reason was stated to be the P-tubes, without them working properly, the pilots probably slowed the aircraft down to lessen the turbulence and inadvertently stalled it.

what the fuck is all this about-witchcraft.

  4. YourFatClownAss says:

    SWEET!
Turbulence is the only fun part when flying on commercial aircraft.

  5. GinoRc says:

Yes yes… we know that wings are designed for that. But is scary as hell to see them flexing like that!

In last 2 weeks took very similar route as AF flight CDG-GIG-CDG operated by lost A332. I took route FRA-GRU-FRA with Luth. B744. It is said that is the most dangerous of routes because of the extreme wheather conditions caused in that area of Atlantic.Flying both directions Jumbo was like 5-6 hours in heavy turbulences. We where flying in near-equator clouds at the altitude of 40000 feet or so. B744 is durable aircraft i.e. thanks to the flexibility of its set up.

Airplanes aren’t as strong as some people think. Air France lost an A330 in turbulence. The investigation was inconclusive but they do know that the plane was flying through a thunder storm at the time it was lost. Coincidence? Probably not.

  8. 1papagalos says:

150% actually, somthing thats 7meters of flexing..

  9. EveningsGlory says:

what are you talking about? He is spot on.

  10. EveningsGlory says:

sorry, disregard, i hit “reply” to the wrong post! lol

c’etait pas loin de la rupture !!

  12. kirillkhassine94 says:

i was on the from florida to heathrow and there a solar storm.
    it was on the radio.

  13. crazialbanian25 says:

i juss got off a plane
omg the tuebulence was so scary
    i shit my self

  14. Traffordsgoogle says:

I’ve seen some of the destructive tests they do on those wings … they can flex until they’re nearly at 70 degree angle or something, to the plane, then they snap. I’m pretty sure it’s the least of your worries, the wing flex I mean.

  15. FredLarsson says:

LOL! I just read this comment of yours right after I saw you mixing up a A340 with a B747. Noob. :p

  16. markmnorcal says:

That kinda shit scares that crap out of me too!

  17. gatornation1993 says:

man look at that wing flex, gotta love boeing

  18. Northern206 says:

He’s not trying to be an “expert”, he’s telling the truth. Face it dude, this was not even close to severe turbulence, it was hardly even mild! If it was severe, the camera would have been thrashing around and hitting the window because he’d be jostling around due to the turbulence. I was on a flight departing Edmonton, tornado country, and it was so rough and dropped so sudden, you were being held against your seat belt just to stay seated.

  19. Scandinavian10 says:

    correct ;D

  20. Scandinavian10 says:

Dont try to be an expert noob

  21. cloud1366 says:

looks so amazing and great :) good that the wings are flexible ;) <3

  22. cloud1366 says:

    lool thats a B747

  23. FlyGuy824 says:

Yes this is perfectly normal. The wings are designed to flex upwards and downwards a considerable amount. The size of the wings on the 747-400 are 5650sq ft. Trust me, they are perfectly safe, this flexing you see here is a good thing. Hope this helps.

  24. ancientastronomer says:

….LOL, Trust what I am about to say. That was anything but Severe Turbulance. That would’nt even qualify as mild Turbulance. If that is as bad as it got, you experienced nothing more than a typical Warm-Air bumpy ride. Please allow me to provide a mental image of “Severe” Turbulance…Anything loose flying through the air. The liqued of your drink rising out of it’s cup and floating around the cabin. Walking down the center-isle and getting slammed into the cieling….

I’ve never been on an airplane. Does this stuff happen often?
