Courtesy NTSB This animation depicts the flight path of US Airways Flight 1549 in Weehawken, New Jersey, on January 15, 2009. The animation begins after the airplanes takeoff from La Guardia Airport at 3:26:50 PM EST and ends with the water landing in the Hudson River. Flight data recorder and radar flight path information is displayed on a satellite photo illustration of the area. Near the end of the flight, the animation transitions to surveillance video from Pier 88, which captured the landing. Selected comments from the cockpit voice recorder transcript are displayed as text. The animation audio consists of portions of the recorded air traffic control communications. The airplanes speed, altitude, and local time are displayed in the lower portion of the screen.

@AuroraCypher Yeah because airbus recently installed a ils in the hudson which makes the FBW autoland your plane in the river in case you have to ditch, right? Lol, sure the FBW makes PIO and the flying a little smoother but it was definately not the big part of what saved them, put the 2 and 3 as shared 1 and the 1 as a 4.
At 2:02 someone says “idiot”
the pilot got arested and btw i got to see the plane
I am not so sure, but the ATC seemed least bothered when he said Radar Contact lost, shouldnt he be worried he lost a plane?
And that’s why every commercial pilto should hold a glider pilot license.
ive done some hours in a real flight simulator on 767′s and had emulated blowouts on landing, it’s so real i think anyone trying that manouver on a flight simulator (not fs4 but a real one) would have a 190+ heart rate and brown stains..
having to do it for real… he kept very calm and got it right. top man.. that is what flight training is for, well done also to his training instructor. well done everyone..
Your wrong sir. Every pilot learns this simple acronym and the captain in this case even remarked in an interview about this acronym. They train–extensively–for this type of scenario and even use the hudson as the “last ditch” scenario in simulator engine failures. Its when pilots make it more complicated then this that people die.
Aviate, navigate, communicate
I love how he doesn’t even bother responding to their calls once he realizes he’s going to have to ditch. Priority is completely on aviating at that point …just as taught. What a pro. A more inexperienced pilot would likely mess that up.
stands for HOT MICrophone 1 is Pilot, 2 is Copilot
If I ever get to go on holiday I hope that pilot flys the plane I am in HATS OFF TO YOU SIR!!
Sully is the truest example of competence under pressure. The man is cool under pressure. Sully hats off to you.
lol idk
whats a HOT?
1 – fly by wire system
2 – pilot skills calm and experienced
3 – miracle and lucks
RESPECT!
he did a great job
Mr. Sully, hats off to you sir . . .
omg look at the speed thats realy low!
With all respect…
It´s a LOT more than just the ABCs ! But your funny ABCs make you sound quite important. Congratulations !
All that training pays off. He was just following the ABCs.
A – Airspeed
B – Best spot to Land
C – Communicate
Just another flight crew doing their job. Thank god they did it so well, many lives may have been lost if they didn’t. Kudos to the crew for knowing what to do and pulling it off.
Hell of a job, skipper!
“we’re gonna be in the Hudson”
“im Sorry, Say again??”
that air traffic controller was caught off guard hahahaha….
I bet Chesley could take-on chuck norris and win big time. That man is one of the best pilots in history he landed his plane in a river with a tailwind keep in mind and turned it into a boat, didnt even sink WOW!!! Sully for Prez 2012
