I dont think the pilots were being clear enough with the controller about the scale of their fuel emergency.

FUCK! At this time I will tell the controller “Hey this is the captain, we have no fuel we need to landing right now now now this is and emergency an emergency is now or we crash no fuel no fuel JERK! LET’S US LANDING NOW!!!!”
to me, this accident is more horrific than an explosive engine/mechanical problem because of how avoidable it was..jesus…RIP to the fallen passengers and crew..unreal.
That moron! He should’ve said, “Avainca 052 declaring emergency, we are out of fuel. We need an an emergency approach to JFK.” They would’ve landed had they done that, not run out of fuel and crash!

when they are running low on fuel instead the controllers should say “Avianca 052 heavy roger, cleared for approach on runway # were clearing the traffic and giving all aircrafts to hold until you land.

This is bullshit. There is no time to be polite in situations like this. Speak up! Also when someone says we are low on fuel be specific – I mean tell them we have xyz time. Man this was tough to watch.
