The decreasing number of air passengers during the months of October, November and December of year 2008 showed the effect of worldwide economic slowdown on the airline flights industry of India. The domestic traffic of India fell down in these months (October, November, and December) of year 2008. The domestic passengers decreased by 14 % in the month of October. The domestic passengers decreased by 21 % in the month of November. The domestic passengers decreased by 19 % in the month of December. The various airlines achieved an extraordinary growth rate in year 2007 but these figures of the last three months of year 2008 pushed the airline industry in terms of passengers to the same levels as it was in year 2006.

In the year of 2008 the number of domestic air passengers in India decreased; on the other hand there were few airports like Chandigarh which showed the increase in air passengers. The domestic market was facing a difficult time but on the other hand the international traffic to India was still growing. Cochin, Hyderabad and Bangalore were among various airports which welcomed the international air traffic with a growth of 3.6 % in the months of December of year 2008. The Mumbai airport, which is biggest and busiest international airport of India, faced a reduction of 3.3% in the air passengers. The service of flights to India are being served by various domestic as well as international airlines but Kingfisher was the leading carrier of domestic passengers in January 2009 as per the figures published by the Indian civil aviation ministry.
