Do you know what causes a fire? First it ends a type of fuel then heat and the biggest thing it needs is oxygen. So yeah let’s just lower the oxygen masks BOOM. the fire is bigger then it was before.

DC9 are one of the most reliable aircraft but pariently they loaded something onboard which caused a fire, beside Northwest had number of the DC9 32 and 2 is over 30 years old,
They can’t let down air masks all the time in a fire because the influx of oxygen can cause explosion.

I think the pilots in the cockpit should have at least put on their own mask. At least they would not pass out and might even have a chance for a controlled ditch to save some lives.

ok to clarify for some of these comments.. It is EXTREMELY difficult to make an 100 percent accurate documentary/ dramitzation of these events, on the budget the producers are given.. Some of the companies, aircraft, equipment, scenary, people, and aircraft that were used or there at those EXACT MOMENTS are not widely available or around today.. As a result, the producers use the closest substitute.
