The Flight to Victorville was the final flight of a Delta L1011. Ship number 728 was retired from passenger service on July 31, 2001. The historic flight to Victorville occurred the next day with especially selected Delta employees accompanying the tristar to her final resting place in the aircraft boneyard at the California desert airport. This flight marked the end of a great era of L1011 service for Delta Air Lines.

Forgot to say, I miss those twin rotating beacons on the -1/100. At night when spotting it was no question of what was coming when you spotted those, very nice/intrguing to see!
Very very very nice!
Very very very nice!
@1Merino – Amen to hate S3B!!!!!!!
Those were the good ole days. Used to fly from Atl to TPa..where the maitenance base was..knew there would always be a mechanical! haha..I am though in the singing part on the 8min page..I remember doing that commercial..Retired in 2008 after 30 years..Miss the big D…(hate S3B!)
Wow! I got emmotional too….I started my career in 1966 til 2002. There were so many of my friends in the video…..and yes we were so young….Delta raised me
Nice video… my Dad flew the L-1011 and I know it was one of his favorite planes. I remember commuting on the L10 during my commuter days… best jumpseat in the industry!
Great memories. Thank you for posting,
Former DL F/A -class of 1985
Sad at 6:33 all the other TriStar’s already sitting there.
34.5 years I worked from the C-46-to present…It was a great ride. Some were very “ruff” but the Captions were experts.
I one time asked Capt. Campbell, Capt. have you in all the years of flying have you ever be LOST. His answer was a resoundable; NO. I was so pround to be an operation agent and got to meet pilots like Noisey Woods..
Wonderful video..thank you for the work. This made me very proud of my career at Delta..I often heard Captains say that the Tri-Star was a legend, she came before her time…
@aerobat150 – Good for you. This must have been a great experience. I would have liked to been aboard for the final flight of the Queen.
I was on this flight sitting in 21A , definately one of the major highlights of my Carrer at Delta!
@1DLflyer – Making this video was an emotional experience for me as well and I’ve received great remarks from many, many retirees who flew the Queen of Delta. I’m happy that I was able to rekindle some fond memories from what many consider the GOLDEN AGE of aviation at Delta. The “We Love to Fly” commerical was one of Delta’s best commericals. My gosh, everyone looked so young.
Wow!. I got emmotional when she made its final flyby. I love the entire video. My first time on the L-1011 was as nonrev for my job interview LAX-ATL-MSY-LAX. My parents loved the first class experience from LAX-ATL-SJU-ATL-LAX. The “We Love to Fly and it Shows” commercials are special to me as one of my class mates (Gayle) was in the one with the military service kids making several reservations at once, and Gayle proudly says she made “one”..
Thanks for posting this great video.
@grassroot3 – Yes, it certainly was the golden age of aviation for us Delta employees. I retired off the L1011 in 1997. Making the video was quite an emotional experience for me as well. Thanks for the nice comments.
I retired in 2003 on the MD11. Not quite the ship as the L10. This was really the golden age of aviation for most of us. Brings tears to my eyes. Great job
@PoSeiDoNN91 – Thanks for the nice offer. Youtube has done away with the star rating system. You can only select “like” or “dislike” for the menu located at the bottom of the video viewing screen. No, I was’t even a passenger on this historic flight – Delta restricted the passenger list to active employees only. Bummer!!
yes I remember you retired in 1997, I have watched your nice retirement video many times and commented on it as well. I was just curious if you were one of the passengers on the final flight and filmed some of this to put this clip together… I would give you 5 stars if I could figure out how on this new YouTube layout.
Thanks for the nice comments. Unfortunately, I was not on this historic flight. I retired as an L1011 International Captain for Delta in 1997. This video is a compilation of file footage from the Delta film archives; footage of the final flight of ship 728; pictures of the final crew; and footage of two Delta commercials from the eighties. There are no copies available for sale, but you can download a copy from youtube and burn it to a dvd.
Incredible video… thanks so much for posting this… THIS plane should have been the spirit of delta….. where you on this flight or is this a video that can be bought??
