metal fatigue?
@cupomash they do?
Yeah this guy tells everybody hey it’s ok to fly even though the investigation is still pending then 16 days later “em em em well we really can’t let the public fly till we find out about what caused this accident”. Let’s face that’s was not even a apology it was covering your ass. And the sad thing about it airline companies still operate like this today.
@Darthbelal
then, and today…
here we go again the Comet Disaster
The Comet disasters were responsible for major improvements in aircraft design, mainly in metal fatigue and ways of dealing with rapid decompression. It’s just too damn bad such improvements have to be drawn up in blood.
At least they figured out that square windows were causing the de-pressurizations. The corners were suffering too much stress.
0,5 mm of aluminium is very thin for such pressures.
BOAC 781 marked the first time that an airframe was rebuilt from its wreckage to help determine the cause of the accident. Today, this is standard procedure.
good point
I wouldnt call that a landing.
You wouldnt pop like a baloon – the human body is mainly made of water which is virtually immune to pressure changes. The problem is ruptured lungs (lungs being filled with gas) and eardrums, and of course structural failure of the aircraft.
To be fair, metal fatigue wasn’t nearly as well understood back then.
At those kind of speeds there’s little difference between hitting water and hitting concrete
omfg the Comet disasters keep coming…4 within 1 year’s worth of time
if you were in a plane whos pressure is different then the air out side you would pop like a balon. And if you were in a plane that poped like a ballon then the cockpit brakes off then the tail and then your on fire and you plumiting at a very fast rate then you hit the water which is not like a soft pillow when you hit water its like hiting a brick wall. i dont think your going to survive.
you would think landing in the water some one could of survied!
square windows, extremely thin body shell, and the glass used was somewhat different. 3 faults with the comet.
that was aloha 243, only 1 died
Yes, they can but it’s extremely unlikely. Planes today now have two layers to them. The cabin you sit in is the “balloon” and is the inner layer, and the planes outside shell, which is made of some sort of metal (it can vary), is what protects the balloon and takes the brunt of the stresses caused by air pressure and other things like turbulence and vibration. In other words, you’ll be fine.
why do they have to play creepy music during the autopsys
yep at honolulu
i am no expert , but i know this crash was caused by the windows or something they were square i dont what it was with the windows…but today that cant happen!( im scared of flying 2!) ( i know u already flew…)
yes dont be afraid. You,re not afraid to drive your car aren’t you? Planes are 99.9999999% safe if the were only 99.9% safe there where be 3 plane crashes a day around the world. (I belive we have 99.9% chances to have a car accident in our entire life…) Don’t be afraid and enjoy your flight!
You’re talking about the Aloha airlines flight. If a plane’s structure is weak enough, then a breakup due to metal fatigue can happen. Still, keep in mind these kinds of events are so rare. I can only think of four incidents in all of aviation history where metal fatigue caused or almost caused a crash.
