One question, I thought you had to have a TSA lock on your gun case, I think its those types of locks that any TSA personel can open with a universal type key. Never flown with one, but I see you bought your own lock.

@survivalstuffonline I’m going to guess he separated the upper and lower to make it easier to pack everything in there. I have to separate my upper from my lower because my rifle case isn’t long enough.

@URBANAMERICANTAC Yeah, I used TSA approved locks by Master on the TNP trip, worked great. I’ve heard that they will cut the locks off if they can’t reach you.

@FirearmsARTechnition LOL … pathetic! It’s not like he was waving his AR around in the CABIN! You can travel but they have to be in luggage and be inspected. Get informed!

  13. zerobinary2 says:

@sootch00 “Only Air Marshalls or approved LE can have a gun as Carry on” Cool So Air marshalls and the pilot can have it loaded in the plane?

  14. termpred says:

Great video Sootch! It’s a good thing to hear from someone who actually has experience. I have always wondered what it was like, read through TSA regs, but had never heard anyone’s experiences.

    Thanks!

@midwestiowashooter Chicago sucks (trust me, I live in downstate IL and they ruined the whole state for us). You gotta watch out for other lib hot spots too. I read an article about a guy who got charged with possession of an unlicensed handgun and hollow point ammunition. He was going under the travel protection, got delayed and due to circumstances beyond his control became a felon and got his stuff seized.

  16. survivalstuffonline says:

Did you separate the upper from the lower because of the TSA rules or you were just being cautious and more respectful during the process?

  17. SixtyAteOutdoors says:

    Thanks for the info Sootch

  18. survivalstuffonline says:

    Very good information!

  19. midwestiowashooter says:

Be careful if you have a stop in Chicago. There are many horror stories where people have flights cancelled while there and have to claim their weapons. Once you leave the airport you are breaking the cities laws !!!

  20. Monophony1 says:

The Urban Shooter podcast had a great instructional on flying with guns; if I had to guess it was almost a solid hour of information; however, I forgot which episode it was.

  21. olchevyman says:

Thank you for that….However one note of caution if flying in or out of JFK (atlanta,ga) airport, majority of TSA are completely incompetent in there job. They can give you a huge hassle. Good luck and God bless!

  22. xboxrulez12 says:

America is the only country in the world where you can take a firearm in your luggage. Lol.

  23. glocklife says:

Very Very good video!!! Something that I haven’t seen before and really always wondered about. Solid video and great info as always. Although I live in NY and suspect that it may be a little more complicated in NY area airports.

  24. stickandrun says:

o yea you have 2 be 21 to buy a striped lower in sc witch i just found out. any body know why that is

  25. turbotechnique says:

Nice vid. I brought my pistol to Alaska for a fishing trip last year, and I accidently put an EMPTY mag in my carry on. They only noticed it because my ipod looked odd to them. That was a 45min ordeal that resulted in me forefitting the mag to make my flight. But overall pretty easy process.
