Air Crash Investigation – Korean Airlines 007 HD Part 1/5

Air Crash Investigation (ACI) – Korean Airlines Flight 007 (Target is Destroyed) HD Part 1 Korean Airlines Flight 007 was a scheduled passenger flight from New York City to Seoul, South Korea between August 31 and September 1, 1983, when it was attacked and shot down by fighter aircraft of the Soviet Union after straying into Soviet airspace near the Kamchatka Peninsula and Sakhalin Island. The reported deaths of 269 passengers (including one sitting Congressman – Georgia Democrat Larry McDonald) and crew combined with massive Soviet deception as to the location of the crash site provoked international outrage, and may have been a catalyst leading to the collapse of the Soviet Union itself as a political entity. It being a catalyst for the collapse of the Soviet Union may be inferred from the fact that NATO had decided, under the impetus of the US administration, to deploy Pershing II and cruise missiles in Europe, primarily West Germany. This deployment would have placed missiles just 6-10 minutes striking distance from Moscow. But support for the deployment was wavering and many doubted that the missile deployment would find enough support to effect it. When the Soviet Union shot down Flight 007 with 269 people aboard—an act which US President Ronald Reagan characterized as a “massacre”—enough support was galvanized for the deployment. Many believe this US confrontational demonstration of strength to be a factor in the demise of the Soviet Union.

  2. legozombie4000 says:

    @goodbyelonglive44 dude seriously? i’ve heard of people who still believe that KAL 007 was flying in the R-20 route and the soviets deliberately shot it down

  3. goodbyelonglive44 says:

    I am only sorry for the 1 Vietnamese and 5 Thais who died in it..

  4. goodbyelonglive44 says:

    @legozombie4000 269 to be presisely…but how do you know if its a misunderstanding?

  5. Omatunto says:

    AIC is the best program of its kind, others just suck

    @Lancer2884
    You don’t get the picture don’t you?
    The captain of the passenger plane veered away from the flight path because he FORGOT switch from HEADING mode to INS mode, its simple as that.
    What you are suggesting is like driving a car on the lane of incoming traffic and blaming a driver of that lane for the whole mess!

  7. legozombie4000 says:

    A simple misunderstanding brought down a plane killing over 200 people…….

  8. Lancer2884 says:

    @vnck25 It’s not everything. If they’d knew it was a Commercial Jet they wouldn’t shoot it down. The pilots didn’t notice (As it was impossible) the warning shots from the Fighter Jet Pilot. When they did ask to climb to a higher altitute it forced the aircraft to raise the nose and slow down which was taken as an evasion from the Fighter Jet. Then they decided to shoot the aircraft down before it flew into the international waters.

  9. legolandis says:

  12. abelviriyamaysumanas says:

    @vnck25 Uhuh…I see that…

  13. vnck25 says:

    @abelviriyamaysumanas
    No, I don’t think so.The General ordered to fire because they thought that Air Korea plane was suspected to be a US spy plane. I think the fault is with the pilot and the co pilot of the Air Korea flight they forgot to turn on the correct navigation system!
    Its like trespassing someones private property you will have to face the consequences. But its was a very unfortunate incident.

  14. abelviriyamaysumanas says:

    @vnck25 so maybe the one that’s must be blamed is the person that tell the order to the pilot….

  15. Servodude1 says:

    I wouldn’t take this as gospel. I’ve read a great deal about this incident, and this representation leaves a great deal of information out. Probably a good idea to read some technical information before you jump to conclusions. And by the way, KAL 015 never had a strong tail wind as depicted. KAL015 was actually at maximum speed trying to reach a parallel course to KAL007.

  16. patko1610 says:

    isnt the actor who played captain here the same actor who played captian in JAL 123 crash?

  17. kaiyno says:

    Another infamy, just like Iran Air flight 655

  18. vnck25 says:

    @iiiset
    The Soviet pilot just executed his orders dont blame him, just put yourself in his place. Would you disobey ur senior officer and face a courtmartial?

  19. iiiset says:

    f*cking trigger happy jarheads. we have them here in the US too.

  20. McLarenMercedes says:

    @matatan69

    and for your info the cold war is long over so what are you bitching about anyhow??

  21. McLarenMercedes says:

    @mrmattusftw

    yeah, because it was a political system to blame for paranoid humans and the human error
