The real hero’s here are the 191 pilots. Circumstances prevailed to cause their tragedy and all pilots owe them gratitude -even though they could not change things, for doing as well as they did. The NASA guys wouldn’t have put themselves as close to danger as 191 pilots experienced – but they did prove the dynamics of it.
