I wonder what the pilot thought who asked him for the change.

Yeah, I must say when I book my flights and I see it’s a DC10 on that very flight I book another flight, either on another airline or another day. Flying on one seems like playing russian roulette. Also a lot of them still flying are ancient and should be retired.

  4. iraqvet2007 says:

    DC-10 = Death Cruiser 10

Never liked the width of these planes…It was too crowded…Didn’t quite feel right..

  6. iloveyourstory says:

Man and the pilot wasn’t even scheduled to be on that flight. Talk about crap luck.

  7. iloveyourstory says:

@jah0524 wow thanks for telling us, that would be so sad to see.

  9. Blazingspitfire says:

    RIP all board

PS: IS the cockpit in the re-enactment a 737 cockpit? I thought I saw some familiar overhead switches and the eyebrow windows.

  10. MDkid1 says:

where are these documentaries from? there are so many of them.

  11. canktm08 says:

@jah0524 there is no video of this crash…only still shots…3 of them…only video is of discovery channels computer animation of the crash. there is audio from the tower to the plane after the engine came off. the plane was airbourne for about 20 seconds after engine came off..my father new a passenger on the flight from our town here in southern vermont

  12. jah0524 says:

There is a ACTUAL video of this crash somewhere. I have seen it. The video incudes the engine separating and coming over the wing, the bank to the left, the plane disappearing behind a building and the rising mushroom cloud of smoke. I cannot find it anywhere on the internet now, but it was posted on a site several years ago. Someone must have requested that the video be removed from the web.

Sounds a bit like Concorde, Left engine fails, rolls to the left, crashes soon after take off.

  19. wazithefreak says:

@dancyn29 very sorry for the loss, I can’t imagine what the stress was like for him. Again I’m sorry.

  20. dancyn29 says:

    @wazithefreak
have some respect for family! My husbands 2nd cousin was a mechanic on that plane and although he did nothing on that engine, he had serviced the plane and the finger pointing was very bad at the time and the guilt having had anything to do with that flight was hard to take. 1 year later, after Easter dinner he went into a bedroom and took his life.

  21. AndyMcArren1356 says:

they should make a procedure when there is an engine failure they should retract the flaps incase the engine could have been seperated

  22. davidpar2 says:

@ehwhat0 in the case of this flight, “they were committed,” i.e. the plane had already left the ground when the engine broke free…also, it is presumed that the pilot, while obviously aware of a problem, was unaware that it was a sheared engine

  23. sorvina2001 says:

    wow

  24. Win2k3SE says:

    Aspect ratio is screwed.
